First Impression

SMOK recently came out with the R200, which is an updated version of their previous model, the R80. The SMOK R200 200W is the same size and is otherwise visually identical to its predecessor besides a small reset button on the front. This model, however, uses two 18650 batteries that must be removed to recharge. There is a micro-USB port, but this can only be used for firmware upgrades. The previous model had an internal battery that had to be recharged using the micro-USB port. SMOK has also fixed the rattle on the R200, so the buttons are firm and secure.

SMOK R200 200W Starter Kit

While the R80 came with the SMOK TFV4 Micro Tank and an internal battery, the R200 only comes with the user manual and a USB cable. The R200 is really more of an advanced device, and as such, it requires vapers to provide their own 18650 batteries. The R80 is designed to be user-friendly because all you really have to do is fill the tank up with e-juice. However, if you would prefer a starter kit that’s more inclusive, you can find the full SMOK R200 200W TC VW Box Mod Starter Kit by clicking on the button below. DirectVapor also gives you the option to purchase the SMOK R200 200W TC mod bundle, which comes with your choice of either the Sense Herakles Plus Tank, Kanger Toptank Mini, Crown Tank by Uwell, or the SMOK TFV4 Mini tank. You’ll also receive two LG HE4 35A 2500mAh batteries and an ESYB M2 battery charger.

SMOK R200 200W Design & Features

The SMOK R200 200W comes in a zinc and aluminum alloy box with a classic matte finish. It is slightly larger than a deck of cards and has the OLED display on the side with three control buttons. The batteries are secured with a door that slides and clicks into place firmly. Otherwise, the SMOK R200 200W is really very simple. It doesn’t have any extra frills, gadgets, or tools to speak of. It does what it is supposed to do and no extra.

Performance

The SMOK R200 200W, albeit plain, does perform really well. We’ve seen this kind of mod before from SMOK, but then again, we’ve seen a lot of great mods from SMOK, so that’s not necessarily an insult. The SMOK R200 200W may not actually be able to go all the way up to 200W–but if you’re anywhere in that range make sure you are using high-drain batteries–yet it does feel very powerful at higher wattages.

The Tank

As we mentioned above, this version specifically doesn’t come with a tank, but it has a spring-loaded connection, so most tanks should suffice. The R80 on the other hand comes with the TFV4 Micro tank, which has an extended glass tube in case you decide you want to make your tank just a bit larger. With the extra long piece, you end up with a full extra milliliter for vaping.

SMOK R200 200W Display & Menu

The display on the SMOK R200 200W is similar to the display you’ll see on a wide variety of the company’s products. Press the fire button five times to turn on the device and then another five times to turn it off. Clicking it three times will allow you to scroll through the menu where you’ll be able to set your coils, TCR settings, and ramp-up settings (Temp Hard, Temp Soft, etc.). You can also set the date and time on the SMOK R200 200W when in lock mode. However, since the device does not have an internal battery, you will have to reset the device every time you charge up.. Clearly, SMOK just swapped in the board from the R80, which did use an internal battery, and overlooked this minor difference. It shouldn’t prove to be too irritating in any case because it only shows up while pressing the fire button in locked mode. You should have no problem changing settings on the main display.

SMOK R200 200W Box MOD Kit’s Price

The SMOK R200 200W is selling for between $40 and $50 on DirectVapor, which seems about fair for this device. However, don’t forget that you will have to supply your own batteries and tank. The R80 is slightly more expensive, but in turn it comes with everything you need to start vaping. The SMOK R200 starter kit that does include all of your gadgets will run you somewhere close to $100, which is significantly more expensive. All in all, SMOK is a reputable company, and you know you’re getting your money’s worth. However, this is probably not what you’re looking for if you are an advanced vaper looking for the newest gadgets. In that case, you’re better off trying something with just a bit more pizzazz.

Overall

There isn’t too much more to add here. We at E-Cig Brands enjoyed vaping the SMOK R200. We weren’t blown away by this new device from SMOK because we feel as if we’ve seen mods that are a lot more impressive from SMOK. It may just be blowing smoke, if you know what we mean (pun intended). Nonetheless, it’s a very solid, reliable device that performs very well. If this sounds like your kind of vape, then check it out today on DirectVapor.
